PolySurlin Moisture Retarder (PSMR) is a coating applied to aluminium cladding to form a moisture barrier that helps the metal to withstand very harsh conditions such as high degrees of temperatures and wide changes in humidity between the interior and the exterior.
Paragon uses ASTM B209 standard for all our aluminium insulation jacketing. This standard helps engineers to find out the right jacket type for aluminium cables and also acts as compliance for aluminium jacketing. The composition of the alloys we use for aluminium jacketing are ASTM B209 compliant while the mechanical properties are B 209 compliant.
PSMR coating can be used to cover straight pipes, elbows and fittings, even vessels and equipment. The ASTM E84 must have flame or smoke less than 25 per 50 square foot while the pinhole barriers should be less than 5 per 50 square feet. The thickness may vary depending on the NPS and insulation rigidity. It should not have any visual defects. Emittance targets should be either painted or film-coated.

There are three types in which the classification of the ASTM C1729 aluminium jacketing can be done. These are based on
- type that gives you a definition of the outer walls whether it's bare, plain, or film-coated.
- type where the grade is aluminium alloy or temper
- the class which defines the type of moisture barrier on the inner surface
